2026 California Zephyr trip with Mark and Lindsay

CZ_Day1
But first we have to get to Chicago. I flew non-stop on United,
(Spokane-O'Hare), and Mark flew WestJet (Vancouver to O'Hare via Calgary). We
finally met up at the entrance to the
CTA Blue Line to downtown.
As we prepared
to board, a woman began yelling, no, SCREAMING at us to STAY BACK!! DO NOT BOARD
THE TRAIN!! over the PA system. Weird.
After that demonstration, we were whisked downtown to the Washington Street
station inside "The Loop" where we encountered the only real snafu of the trip.
We had to schlep all our luggage up two long flights of narrow stairs as the CTA
escalators were out of order.
Just two blocks south, two blocks west and half a block south found us at the
Residence Inn by Marriott Chicago Downtown/Loop.
After a drink in Mark's room to celebrate our arrival (M brought Crown Royal
Black, L brought Jack Daniel's), we visited the hotel bar for additional drinks
and dinner. Mark had his usual chicken salad and yours truly had clam chowder
and fried chicken tenders. An excellent nightcap for the day!
