A travel day. I am up at 4am. We Lyft to SMF at 6am to Terminal A. Mark's WestJet flight leaves at 9am (SMF-LAX-YVR). I say goodbye to him at the ticket counter and walk myself over to Terminal B.

The elevator to Terminal B took 10 minutes to arrive and it was completely full! 5 minutes later, another one arrived and a few of us squeezed in. Car now full. 4th floor, the doors open and someone sez “Can some of you get off? We have a stroller..." (and 8 pieces of luggage and relatives). Sorry, NO. We had all waited 15 minutes already. The entitlement of some people. Finally to floor 5 skywalk and Terminal B.

I tried to check my bag. The kiosk is having trouble reading the boarding pass on my iPhone. Finally got it to work.

It gives me some smartass message like, "My, but you're here early. You can't check your bag until FOUR HOURS before your flight (@ 12:09)."

Fine. I go back upstairs and find a table where I can charge my phone and wait. I sit down and find this:

In the hour and 20 minutes I sat there, no one stopped by to claim it. It's a 59Fifty brand Sacramento Athletics baseball cap (retail $39.99). Do you know anyone with a size 7 (55.8cm) head? It's too small for me. For now it just sits on a railroad lantern in my office.

At precisely 0809, I get up and trudge back to bag drop. I still can't get the damned kiosk to read the boarding pass off my phone.  According to the counter gal, this is a common problem -- you have to turn your phone UPSIDE DOWN to scan, which causes all sorts of weird things to happen.  The aforementioned counter gal has no trouble reading my pass with her hand-held scanner, so I send my bag on its way and head to a nice bar somewhere.

The rest of the morning was uneventful. Two Bloody Mary's and a breakfast burrito later, I flew back to Idaho (SMF-PDX-GEG).  Good to be home!

Well, Mark, it's your turn to plan the next trip! ;p What's it gonna be??

THE END
