Monday, July 14th:
Today's tour is the nearby State Capitol building just up the hill from our
hotel. We load up and head out.
We're divided into two groups. First stop is the "room with all the paintings"
(the legislative hearing room).
Next is the rotunda inside the capital dome. Hard to get it all in one shot.
A nearby painting commemorates the final spike at Gold Creek, Montana. I think
that's old Henry Villard with the spike maul. Lots of beautiful stained glass
here too.
We then check out the Senate Chamber
Now in the Legislature Chamber is this priceless Charlie Russell painting over
the speaker's rostrum.
Next stop (and just across the street from the Capitol) is the Montana History
Museum.
They have a wonderful collection of Charlie Russell artwork. A
beautiful painting of a GN train crossing Two Medicine Bridge at Glacier Park is
overhead. They even have a Winold Reiss painting as well (Vee-nold! Vee-nold!).
Tour completed, they take us back to the hotel. I set off to do a little
shopping in Helena's "Last Chance Gulch" and pick up the Mrs. a nice little pair
of Montana Yogo Sapphire earrings (early anniversary gift).
