GN Electric Operations continued

Switches closed: S 2 (S 22) S 1 (S 21) GS 1 (GS 21)
GS 2 (GS 22) MGR 11 (MGR 21) (If run with
Sequence (A) GS 3 will also be closed).

Relays closed: TDR 1 (TDR 21) TDR 2 (TDR 22)
SR 1 (SR 21).

Normally speed switches close at 462 RPM as MG
set takes its first bump in connecting to Transformer.

(5) Remove wedge SR 1 (SR 21).

Switch SF 1 (SF 21) closes. After 4 second delay
TDR 1 (TDR 21) opens switches S 1 (S 21) and
S 2 (S 22). S 2 (S 22) out re-closes S 1 (S 21) and
S 3 (S 23) and opens GS 1 (GS 21) GS 2 (GS 22).
TDR 2 (TDR 22) opens and takes shunt off of OLRS
1 (OLRS 21).

If Sequence (B) run without Sequence (A).

Switches closed: S 1 (S 21) S 3 (S 23) MGR 11
(MGR 21) SF 1 (SR 21).

Relays closed MGR 12 (MGR 22).

If Sequence (B) run with Sequence (A).

Switches closed: S 1 (S 21) S 3 (S 23) MGR 11
(MGR 21) SF 1 (SF 21) GS 4 — BC 1 operate RCR
by hand BC 2 closes and opens BR 1.

Relays closed: MGR 12 (MGR 22).

Hence, if operations from 1 to 5 as explained occur
in order shown, MG set is okay and battery charging
circuit is okay.

SEQUENCE (C). SERIES MOTORING. HIGH OR LOW
SPEED. POWER OFF.

May be run without depending on Sequence (A) and
(B). If run with Sequence (B) JR Hold and Reset
Circuits may be used. If run without Sequence (B)
SF 1 (SF 21) must be blocked closed in order to operate
JR Breakers and hold them in.

(1) Close control switch on operating end.

(2) Close JR hold. Then press JR reset to close all
four JR Breakers.

(3) Throw reverser handle forward or reverse.

(4) Place Selector handle in high or low speed.
Operates series parallel switch through reverser
handle.

Page 109

(5) First notch on main handle (Speed lever) operates
following switches:

Reversers—Through TDRC 1 (TDRC 2).
Series parallel sw. lock.
Motor switches 1 to 12 inc. and locks Motor cutout
switches #1 MCO and #2 MCO through Reverser
Handle, Reverser Interlocks, TDR 2 and TDR 22
out and Series Parallel Switch parallel .or aeries.
Closes G 8, G 9, G 10.

(6) Notch 2 on main handle closes G 1 through Motor
switch interlocks, JR interlocks and interlocks on
SF 1 and SF 21.
G 1 is the main field switch.

(7) Further notching on main handle operates (G)
contactors which cut out main generator field
resistance a step at a time, increasing generator
voltage. Notch 8 closes SF 1A and SF 1B to increase
Syn. Motor Fields. Notch 18 closes SF 2A and SF
2B to further syn. motor fields.

Refer to spot diagrams for proper sequence of
Contactors

SEQUENCE (D). SEPARATE MOTORING. HIGH OR
LOW SPEED, POWER OFF.

(1) With main handle open. Take E notch on field lever.
Separate Exc. light will come on when NVR picks
up. B 1 and B 11 in off position (Off valves
energized).

(2) Take first notch on field lever and press separate
Exc. button. Closes E 10 and separate button
closes B 2 to B 62 (Stabilizing Switches).

(3) Further notching operates "E" contactors which
cut out Regen. Exc. field resistance increasing
traction motor fields.

Refer to spot diagram for proper sequence of "E"
contactors.

To put handles back to "Off" position — Put field
handle to 1st notch and press Series button closes
E 11 opens B 2 to B 62 and NVR. NVR closes B 1,
B 11 (de-energizes "Off" valves), puts out separate
Exc. lamp. Then notch to "E" notch, then to "Off".
Shut off main handle.

When completing any Sequence be sure and remove
all papers from contacts and jumpers from wires
before attempting to start locomotive.

LOCOMOTIVE STANDSTILL TESTS TO BE
PERFORMED BEFORE LEAVING SHOPS:

With MG sets running and engine ready for road

Set engine brake.

Close control breaker.

Close JR hold button and press JR Reset button.

Put reversers forward.

Put selector in low speed.

Take first, then second notch on main handle and see
that traction motor armature and field meters show
100-150 Amps motoring. Return handle to Notch
No. 1. Take E notch on field controller handle and
wait until separate exc. light comes on. Advance
field handle to first notch and press separate button.
Open field handle wide open. Field Ammeter should
read 1100-1200 amps. Shut handle off to first notch,
open control switch, put handle to E notch and then
to "off". Shut off main handle.

Reverse motors and repeat.

Put selector handle in high speed connection and repeat
above.

If readings OK, engine ready for road.
