Wednesday, July 16th:

Lots of presentations today. I start with Bob Kelly's "Exploring GN's Montana Mainline Stations: Fort Union to Havre". Bob passed out a "beta version" CD of his presentation materials, including depots, blueprints and maps.

Next up is Father Dale Peterka with "Evolution of GN Steam Power".

Just before lunch is Ben Ringnalda's GN's Mountain Series Observation Cars - including progress on his own PV, GN 1291 "Saint Nicholas Mountain" which he is restoring to its former glory.

Later in the afternoon, John Langlot and Mike Bartenstein talk about "The Rusty Dusty": Great Northern's Wenatchee to Oroville line.

Closing out the convention is our annual banquet. First, let's check out some of the tables.

Our banquet speaker is Bill Taylor talking about the Montana Central. After his talk, Bill passes out shards of old GN, MC & Manitoba Road china he and his wife found along the right-of-way.

Awards for this year are:

Empire Builder Award to John Langlot

Rocky's Awards to Ed Erickson and Ben Ringnalda

There were additional awards, but unfortunately, my pictures did not turn out! Apologies...

And finally, the big raffle prize winner this year is Bob Deem of Spokane, WA with the "simplified scheme" U28B model by Proto 2000.

I had a great time at this convention and even won one of the door prizes myself -- a genuine hotel "GN Logo" shower curtain! I hope to see everyone again next year in the Twin Cities!

THE END
